Illusions of color perception

Our perception of color is affected by external factors and creates optical illusions that should be known and noticed during painting with color. A way is offered for you to examine your perception of color which may be mistaken.

In the diagram below the main squares of the upper and front surfaces of the cube are the same light brown color of the square in front of the cube, and not brown and orange, as we shall see. Interpretation of the perception of color in the shade is very complex.

In the following image, the top row of squares is made of the same green and pink squares as the bottom row, and not of the same grays, as it seems. The perception of the color of the object is affected by the color of the surrounding background.

In this illustration, the spirals appear to be blue and green, actually made of the same green color. Still, it's hard to believe, until you don't place colors that are perceived as different on top of each other.

Another problem of perception is presented in the following figure. During an ongoing process of working on the details of the image, the perception of the color around them decreases so much that in some of the colors we stop noticing at all. Start looking closely at the dot in the center and you will see it literally within 15 seconds.
