Tips for working with different sculptural materials using a rolling pin

Working with natural ceramic clay has endless possibilities. Ceramic clay can be kneaded, flattened, sculpted and washed. It can be designed from a massive block of clay or under construction from parts. Clay can be used for gypsum molds for casting and even as liquid clay in mold casting. During work with clay it should be moistened with water as needed to prevent dehydration and cracks. When finishing work on a sculpture made of natural ceramic clay it should be dried for a week. It is recommended to burn as much as possible, or cover with a layer of glue in order for the sculpture to be preserved. You can burn with us in a studio in Givatayim or at a ceramicist in your area. After burning or covering with glue you can proceed to painting the sculpture.

When working with dry clay, you tear off pieces and put them until they are soft like plasticine, then you start to sculpt and shape. Dry clay can be shaped by rolling or sculpting and using different sculpting tools to design and create interesting textures. For smoothing or gluing two parts, spray a little water. It is recommended to use constructions for sculpting a human or animal figure and wrap them with pieces of clay. Dry clay dries in the air, so you simply place the sculptures to dry for one day, the drying time varies according to the thickness of the sculpture. After the sculpture has dried, you can move on to painting and decorating.

Working with polymer clay is easy and suitable for children of all ages. The clay is soft, flexible and non-toxic, convenient to use and work with, to design and create delicate and tiny items, easy to mix colors and create new shades. Great for working with stencils. You can create different shapes and connect them by rolling with a rolling pin. After finishing the sculpture, bake in a home oven (do not put in the microwave!) In order to harden the material. After baking, the clay hardens and no further shaping is possible, but you can drill holes, sand, paste, paint with acrylic paints and spray paint.
