Before starting atHead sculpting, It is advisable to perform a number of exercises in sculpting major interior parts with Ceramic clay או plasticine. This is an opportunity to get to know and understand the structure of the different parts of the face: eye, mouth, nose and ear, this will be very easy later when you sculpt a life-size head.
Step-by-step eye sculpting exercise
When sculpting human eyes, it is important to remember that their shape is spherical. Therefore, the spherical shape of not only the eyes but also the eyelids must be observed.
Despite the common belief that "the eyes are the mirror of the mind", the expressiveness of the eyes is achieved by training the facial muscles around the eyes and not by the eye itself.
Make a flat rectangle measuring 8x10 cm from ceramic or plasticine.
Add clay to form a top and left wall. Draw a horizontal center line on the remaining surface and also mark the center point on it.
Draw a circle on the center line.
Add clay on top of the circle while creating a spherical bulge.
Draw the shape of the eye opening on the spherical bulge.
Add clay to the upper arch while creating an upper eyelid.
Remove clay from the lower arch while creating a lower eyelid.
Shape the eyelids and smooth the area.
Draw the pupil and iris.
Remove clay from the pupil and iris area while creating depth and shaping the appearance of the eye.
Slide the eye and the surrounding areas. You can straighten sides and shape an eyebrow.
