Colored paper for origami creations

Origami (Japanese: 折 り 紙) is the art of paper folding. The origin of the name "origami" in the Japanese words 折 り ("ori", folding) and 紙 ("gummy", a piece of paper). The name "origami" was coined in 1880, at a time when art was being formed in its modern form, but art itself had begun to develop long before that. Origami art has a deep cultural significance in the Japanese and Chinese culture where it began and is used in various rituals in the Shinto religion, common in Japan. After the opening of Japan's borders to the west in the late 19th century, origami art spread throughout the world and became part of leisure culture.

Today, origami is also used in many educational and therapeutic institutions as a central tool for teaching and occupational therapy - thanks to the unique combination of creativity, accuracy and technical challenge.

There are many styles of origami and new models of folds are frequently published. Origami books present the folding process using a standard charting method developed in parallel in Japan and the West. For reasons of comfort, aesthetics and convention, the folds are usually made without cuts or gluing, on colored square paper.
