Exercise of a Woman's Body Sculpture by Alexander Cherkov, from the book Introduction to the World of Art "Sculpture, painting, drawing and more"

Here is a step-by-step exercise for sculpting a woman's body using Natural ceramic clay, Including work tips and an instructional video on which the exercise is based. Step-by-step body sculpting exercise of a woman

Choose a figure of a woman in any position and take care of pictures from all directions. You can find pictures of models online or take pictures of someone you know. It is not recommended to choose a woman's body with clothes because the clothes blur the anatomical structure and make it difficult to identify the proportions and body structure as it is. Full nudity is not required, you can settle for a body-colored leotard.

For the exercise and understanding the anatomy, use the diagram Human body proportions.

On the question "Where to start?" I usually reply "start from the bottom of the statue and continue up". Even at this stage, the accuracy of the shape is not as important as maintaining the proportions of the body parts and the angles of the joints required for the chosen position of the model.

Smaller parts of the body can now be added, such as arms, legs, chest and hair.

Upon completion of the rough construction of the composition, carefully re-examine the proportions of the body and the angles of the joints, since the clay is not very stable at first.

As the clay dries, it is possible to initially process the parts of the body. Switch to sharpening the shape of the elbows, knees, spine and shoulder blades, chest and abdomen, hair ends and the like.

At this point, it is not recommended to mess with small parts of the body, such as palms, soles or facial features. Achieve maximum reliability of body proportions and a convincing model position. Leave the sculpture to dry for a few days under plastic wrap.

Once the material has dried and reached a state suitable for finishing work, complete the initial work of the small parts. Mark the fingers, the ends of the face, the structure of the hair. In fact, the sculpture of the female figure was completed. However, the statue can be worked on for a long time…
