Instructions for use and tips for working with an external spatula

  • The designated area should be clean and moist. The area intended for repairing dust, oils, dirt and any other foreign matter should be cleaned with a dry brush. Next, slightly moisten the brush and wipe the area to be repaired.
  • The spatula comes as a powder inside a plastic bag. Step one, fill water inside the plastic jar up to the line marked on the sticker. Step two, using a wooden spatula, fill the spatula powder into the water jar, stirring constantly.
  • If you want to create a smaller amount of the material for filling cracks, maintain a ratio between the spatula powder and the water in a ratio of 185: 80 respectively.
  • Once the spatula is mixed and ready to use, you have about two and a half hours to work until the spatula hardens.
  • Cracks in a ceramic sculpture can be filled by applying the spatula with a wooden spatula, and the rest of the material can be removed from all the places where no filling is required.
  • You can repeat the operation once more until you reach a surface area of parts that are suitable for painting.
  • Full drying time about 4 hours,
  • After drying and polishing the spatula, the sanding dust should be thoroughly cleaned.
  • It is recommended to paint the sculpture after the repair.

At your disposal is a sculpture repair kit that includes a variety of materials for repair

After working on the clay sculpture, it should be prepared for burning. If the preparation for the fire was not done properly, the clay statue, in the process of burning in a ceramic oven, may explode, crack and break. In addition, a ceramic sculpture is fragile, if it falls it may break or crack. Most often, the breakdown of the sculpture is repairable and can be restored using different materials and repair techniques depending on the type of fracture. In the repair kit you will find various putty pastes for filling cracks, various adhesives for connecting and fusing separated parts, epoxy dough for sculpting small parts that exploded and were lost and sandpaper for a final finish of the repair areas.

After repairing a statue made of natural ceramic clay with external putty and other repair materials, you can move on to painting the statue using Alexander Cherkov's recommended technique: painting to look like a bronze, wood and aluminum statue. If it is a clay statue that was already finished, but fell and broke, a local repair must be made at the place of the break and then painted to match the color of the statue.
