Instructions for use and tips for working with carpentry glue

  • The area to be glued should be clean and dry.
  • Mix the glue well and then apply it on the areas to be glued.
  • The glue can be applied using a wooden putty or any stick at hand. It can also be applied using a fiber or rubber brush.
  • After use, rinse the brush with water or wipe with a damp cloth.
  • In order to speed up the drying process, it is recommended to put a thin layer of glue on the two parts intended for gluing. If you applied a thick layer of glue, the drying time will be extended. You must wait for 24 hours after the pasting before you can use the pasted object. The glued parts should stay in the clamp at room temperature.
  • Depending on the shape of the object you are gluing, you can use a clip to fasten the parts, or use anything at your disposal, such as a book or a glass, as a means of supporting stability. It can also be placed on a soft pillow for support.
  • The lid should be closed for reuse. If the glue is dry, mix well.

Using carpentry glue in sculpture with ceramic clay

After working on the clay statue, it must be prepared for burning. If the preparation for the fire was not done properly, the clay sculpture, in the process of firing in a ceramic oven, may explode, crack and break. In addition, a ceramic statue is fragile, if it falls it may break or crack. For the most part, the damage to the statue is repairable and can be restored using different materials and repair techniques depending on the type of break. In the repair kit, you will find different putty pastes to fill cracks, different glues to connect and fuse separated parts, epoxy dough to sculpt small parts that exploded and were lost, and sandpaper for final finishing of the repair areas.

Watch a demonstration of repairing a natural ceramic clay sculpture using a sculpture repair kit

After repairing a sculpture made of natural ceramic clay, you can move on to painting the sculpture using Alexander Cherkov's recommended technique: painting a bronze, wood and aluminum-like sculpture. If it is a clay sculpture that was already finished, but fell and broke, a local repair should be made at the fracture site and then painted according to the color of the sculpture.
