Tips for working with natural ceramic clay:

  • In initial acquaintance with ceramic clay, it is desirable to create simple shapes. For example, the shape of a snake by rolling a block of clay on a work surface back and forth. Ball shape by holding a lump of clay between the two palms and rotating them in circles. The ball can be crushed to form a flat disc shape. Cube shape through the clay block partition with your finger and thumb from top to bottom with one hand, and on both sides with the other hand, then drum on the table on all sides of the cube.
  • If you have not finished working on the sculpture and would like to continue working on it later, cover it with a wet cloth and cover it with opaque plastic.
  • When adding fresh clay to a sculpture that has been wrapped with a cloth, it is recommended to partially cover the finished sculpture with nylon, so that the sculpture dries slowly and evenly with the fresh clay.
  • When the work on the clay statue is finished, leave it to dry in a shady place for about a week.

Because dry ceramic clay is fragile and has low strength, in order to preserve a ceramic clay sculpture, it is necessary to prepare the sculpture for burning in a special ceramic oven. Another option is to cover the sculpture with a layer of plastic glue.
