Composition exercise in nature By Alexander Cherkov, from the book Introduction to the World of Art "Sculpture, painting, drawing and more"
Here is a composition exercise in a natural environment - in a park or a grove, next to examine how the changes in the relationship between the format, the object and the background affect the expression of thecomposition And the subject of the work. If you are new to the field, it is recommended that you practice as much as possible in order to better understand the subject of composition from observing our natural environment.
Composition exercise in nature
Prepare two corners measuring 9 x 12 cm from black cardboard and two paper pins. Explanation of composition framework »
Go to a park or forest and start creating landscape compositions as you wish. Attach the corners by the pins and look at the park through the frame.
Change the shape of a frame, that is, the ratio of its height and width, as well as its structure (horizontal or vertical for the same objects), alternately zooming in and out of the frame.
As in the previous example, changes in the ratio of the format, object and background greatly affect the expressiveness of the composition.
You will be amazed at how many different topics may give the same place. To illustrate, I chose three topics:
Autumn Alley (Calm rhythm A monochromatic brace that invites observation).
Municipal park (Optimistic color that invites for a morning run).
Wood (I was attracted to the curvature of the mature tree against the background of the young and straight trees, like the lives of people).
This compositional exercise helps to develop theperception Spatial (of the right lobe). Analysis of retrospectively selected compositions (enough to invent a suitable name) contributes to the consistent development of both brain lobes.
